OUR STORY

From good intentions to real impacts.

Our community programs began with a small group of passionate individuals coming together around a shared frustration for the vast inequity that exists in our community. With thousands of unhoused people living on the Las Vegas streets on any given night, and not enough service providers to reach every one, we began our food and clothing share programs to help narrow a glaring gap. We believe that everyone deserves access to nutritious meals, drinkable water, and comfortable clothing, regardless of how much money they have or what their past entails. Nobody should be left without access to basic human rights, especially when temperatures in Las Vegas regularly exceed 110 degrees.

Our first food share took place in June 2020, when we brought a few dozen brown paper bags filled with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a piece of fruit to a local park. In 2022, we officially became a non-profit to open the door to more resources, funding and the status required to create larger and longer-lasting programs that will reduce poverty violence. We realized, too many incredible grassroots efforts get uprooted by local government and red tape, so we took bureaucratic steps to help us and other local grassroots organizations find sovereignty in our community efforts.

Since then, we’ve developed partnerships with multiple organizations and dozens of volunteers in our community to receive home-cooked meals and distribute them to our houseless neighbors every week during our Their Home Too event. Five years later, we share meals, ice-cold bottled water, and other resources with over 5,000 individuals each year through this event alone.

Our seasonal resource shares reach hundreds more people, connecting individuals to other key resources, like comfortable clothing, blankets, tents, and toiletries to improve quality of life and provide peace of mind. Understanding that any one of us in our community can fall into the deep web of poverty and homelessness with an unexpected turn of events, we lead with empathy and compassion while aspiring to lift up and empower our neighbors with essential resources so they can focus on other needs.

As we continue our growth, we keep our overarching mission to promote equity and liberation for everyone in our community at the forefront of all we do. While creating our own resources, our intention is to become a central resource hub for local organizations and projects that align with our values and share access to these resources.

We’re still writing, and we’ve got a lot more to say. We’d love to include as many characters as possible as we build out our community network and our overall vision for a better world.
